1.0 Using your ECN converter software - Quick start guide.


The File Converter requires minimal user intervention. The Software carries out  the conversion without introducing any loss in the quality of your noise data file. In order to perform conversion, several intermediate files are generated and, consequently, a temporary file directory must be used. As a default, the converter uses the same directory where it is installed. The location of the temporary directory can be selected by the user from the settings menu.



1.1 Select a Temporary Directory.


This software generates few temporary files while it converts your file into the  standard ECN format. The user need to specify, or create  a temporary folder. This can be done by going into the 'Settings Menu' and by selecting the 'Temporary Directory'. If the Directory selection is made properly the software sets the temporary location to the specified directory and provides a success status message in the window. If the directory selection is aborted or if the user specified directory is not available it will set the directory to  to your 'C' drive at  <c:\ECN> .

1.2 Status Messages


The software provides its all status messages in a status window.

1.3 Select the Potentiostat type


The file type for the processing can be selected by the user. This is done using the selecting the appropriate radio button in the 'File Type ' Radio group. In this version of  this software, it supports the following potentiostats and file formats.


Text (.txt) and comma separated (.csv) files

It also allows the user to generate data files using  Excel (.csv and .txt). It is able to convert Excel(text) and Excel Comma separated values {CSV}) files prepared by the user.In this case the column  A in excel is time/Sample number,  column B is current in amperes and column C is the potential in millivolts. For clarity an example of  such a file is given below.

1.3 Open the file to be processed




Open the file by selecting 'File menu -> Open',or by clicking the speed button The software analyses the file and verify weather it is actually an ECN file of the selected potentiostat. If it is not the case, it will abort the operation. If it is a valid ECN file, it proceeds with the conversion. The software communicates with the user  through different status messages. These can be viewed on the status window.



1.4 Wrong Selection of Potentiostat and File


If the user  made a wrong selection of the  potentiostat or tried to process a  a file which is not of the type  selected by the 'Potentiostat Type'  button the software simply aborts the processing. .

1.5 Successful file conversion


The software uses an intelligent algorithm and  looks for typical signature for the specified potentiostat type and on successful identification of this signature  converts it into a standard format. Once converted, the user must select name and location of the converted file.
